Some mini strokes affect balance and coordination. An elderly person may suddenly feel dizzy, stumble, lean to one side, or have trouble walking. They may feel as if the room is spinning or that their legs are not working normally.
Because dizziness is common in older adults, it is easy to overlook. But sudden dizziness with weakness, speech trouble, vision changes, confusion, or severe headache needs emergency attention.
The American Stroke Association includes balance problems, vision changes, face drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulty in the B.E. F.A.S.T. stroke warning signs.
